At Rowden, we develop and integrate digital capabilities that support specialist military users. This role offers the opportunity to work across end-to-end system integration and field deployment, ensuring that cutting-edge C4ISR and Robotics & Autonomous Systems (RAS) technologies are fully operational where they matter most. One week you might be planning an integration strategy with partners, the next you could be deploying systems in the field. The Integration & Field Engineer will split their time between:

System Integration (50%) – Managing the integration of C4ISR and RAS systems, leading the introduction of new features, working alongside industry partners, and acting as a trusted consultant to government.
Field Engineering (50%) – Deploying and supporting systems in real-world environments, providing training, maintenance, documentation, and front-line technical support.

This is a hybrid role requiring someone with both strategic thinking and hands-on problem-solving skills. You will be expected to travel frequently within the UK (primarily between different UK MOD sites in the Midlands/South/Wales), with some travel internationally. The maximum deployment time to support customer projects is four weeks. We recognise the instability this creates, and we will provide additional compensation accordingly.

Our preference is to hire on a 12-month fixed-term basis, but we are open to discussing other contracting options for the right candidate.

Key areas of responsibility

Supports an system of systems, ensuring seamless integration and interoperability.
Supports allocation of Field Engineers, ensuring effective system support.
Integrates new features into system baselines, following an understand > assess > develop > test cycle.
Works closely with government stakeholders, specialist military users, and industry partners to refine and improve systems.
Acts as a domain SME, gaining the trust of military users who expect a deep understanding of operational requirements.
Provides technical consultation to government organisations, advising on capabilities, limitations, and integration strategies.
Conducts documentation review and quality control, ensuring accuracy and usability for field deployments.

Deploys, configures, and maintains C4ISR and RAS systems during UK and international exercises.
Provides first-line support, including network configuration, troubleshooting, and bug reporting.
Works closely with deployed users, ensuring operational readiness of systems in the field.
Designs and delivers training in both classroom and field environments, ensuring end users can operate systems effectively.
Creates technical documentation to support deployments, including training materials, troubleshooting guides, and system manuals.
Conducts testing and evaluation, providing feedback to improve system functionality.

Key skills, experience and behaviours

5+ years’ experience in an engineering or technical role, ideally in a military, defence, or tactical communications environment.
Experience working with specialist military users, understanding their operational constraints and requirements.
Hands-on experience with C4ISR systems, tactical networks, and radio communications (HF, VHF, UHF, MANET technologies).
Strong networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, routing, and network security.
Understanding of military SOPs and their application to system deployment and integration.
Experience with field-based system deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Ability to work autonomously in high-pressure, operational environments.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in fast-moving situations.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to work with both technical teams and end users.

Experience with geospatial applications (e.g., ArcGIS, TAK).
Familiarity with cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps methodologies.
Basic understanding of software development and system lifecycle management.
Experience working with Government stakeholders and industry partners.
